City of Savannah is my second favorite U.S. city, right after Madison. Beyond its rich history, beautiful architecture, artistic atmosphere, urban landscapes that remind me of Guangzhou, and strong Irish cultural presence, what attracts me most is its unique urban form. The historic wards are neatly arranged around distinctive squares, stretching from the riverfront in the north through shopping streets and historic neighborhoods to Forsyth Park in the south, forming a highly walkable city.
I just visited Savannah again (my 7th trip there), and finally saw the St. Patrick's Day parade I'd long wanted to see! Returning to this city inspired me to use LEGO to showcase its special urban form. If you know Savannah, you can probably spot some of the details I tried hard to preserve. This was also my first time using half-unit gaps, which separate the historic wards, while other streets are shown only through the tile borders.
