Over the past two years of designing LEGO-style maps, I know well how challenging it is to represent
linear features, given LEGO’s inherently low spatial resolution and limited angular flexibility. But it
doesn't mean such maps cannot be made. Urban metro maps with simplified and abstract geometry can
actually fit this medium quite well.
In this mapping experiment, I recreated the four lines of the Atlanta Metro System (MARTA
- Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority) and their spatial relationship with the I-285 highway
using LEGO tiles. The result turned out quite nicely, confirming the potential of this mapping approach
while aligning well with the themes of accessibility and urban mapping.
